Although the last epidemiological survey (BRAZIL, 2006) reveal a significant improvement in oral health status of the Brazilian population in the last two decades, oral diseases still require large financial investments by the federal government. This study aims to develop and document a computational approach (Knowledge Discovery in Database Process) capable of managing large volumes of data and producing more comprehensible models to support the decision making process and the formulation of improved oral health policies, as well as making new teaching and research activities in the area viable. Therefore, we analyze a sample of data concerning the dental records of 598 low-income patients, treated with one unit of PUCRS linked to the SUS (Unified Health System). The main result of this work, we identified opportunities for data mining for the extraction of predictive models applied to the analysis of periodontal diseases, malocclusion and indicators of dental caries.
