Resumo: This doctoral thesis aimed to conduct a clinical research on the Motivational Interview (MI) in adolescent drug users who have committed an infringement, hence three studies have been done. The first addresses the theoretical aspects about motivation for treatment, the approach to discouraged patient and constructs involved in the technique of Motivational Interview. The second study reports a clinical trial conducted with 48 adolescents who finished the treatment process for addiction. 27 adolescents were allocated in a group that received 5 sessions of Motivational Interview, and 21 adolescents in another group, who received Psychoeducation treatment as control. The instruments of measurement were a semistructured interview for assessment of socio-demographic data, patterns of consumption and comorbidities, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) to evaluate the intensity of symptoms of depression and anxiety, respectively, and the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment (URICA) for assessment of motivational stages and readiness to change. The group of MI decreased consumption of marijuana and tobacco and the Psychoeducation group decreased the consumption of marijuana and alcohol. Concerning the motivational stages, in the evaluation, the group's average was lower in precontemplation and superior in contemplation, but in the revaluation, only the precontemplation average was lower comparing to Psychoeducation group. In action and maintenance there was no interaction between groups and time factor. There was no significant difference between the two techniques appointing that the two interventions can be applied in this population. The third study was conducted to determine factors related to abandonment of treatment as it was considerable at this population. The factors that presented relationship with the abandonment of treatment were: not to be studying at the moment, having been expelled or suspended from school at some point in life, the age of first use of alcohol, to use cocaine at present, not to have a diagnosis of dependence on tobacco, to be a tobacco abuser, not to fit the diagnosis of marijuana dependence and to be a cocaine abuser. This study showed that brief techniques decrease drug use in adolescence and, prevention to early use of drugs and involvement with the school are protective factors of adherence to treatment.
