The members of Cercopidae are usually called in Brazil “cigarrinhas-das-pastagens” or “cigarrinhas-dos-canaviais”. Kanaima Distant, 1909 (Hemiptera, Cercopidae, Ischnorhininae, Ischnorhinini) are characterized by medium size insects, with a large vertex, wide and slightly carinate at the center, with a Neotropical distribution. In this work, a cladistic analysis of the Mahanarva group is made, comprised by four genera and two sub-genera: Aeneolamia, Kanaima, Pachypterinella, Sphenorhina, Mahanarva (Ipiranga) and Mahanarva (Mahanarva), which the main objective is to observe the relationship between the species of Kanaima and establish the phylogenetic placement of the Mahanarva group. Based on the phylogeny of the group, a taxonomic revision of the known species of Kanaima, through the exam of the type-species, specimens collected on the field and material available on scientific collections. In this work two species of Kanaima are redescribed: K. katzensteinii (Berg, 1879); K. fluvialis (Lallemand, 1924); five new combinations are proposed: Mahanarva (Mahanarva) radiata comb. nov. (Walker, 1851); Mahanarva (Ipiranga) fortunata comb. nov. (Lallemand, 1924), K. fusca comb. nov. (Lallemand, 1927), Mahanarva (Ipiranga) vittata comb. nov. (Walker, 1851) and Mahanarva (Mahanarva) dubia comb. nov. (Stancik & Cavichioli, 2003); and a new species: K. nigra sp. nov. and three new species of Mahanarva (Mahanarva): M. (M. ) rubrovenata sp. nov., M. (M. ) webbi sp. nov. and M. (M. ) dabliosignata sp. nov.
