Resumo: This work has investigated Mathematics learning, focusing on the concept of function, in High School first-grade groups using the spreadsheet resource. It aims at investigating contributions of the use of spreadsheets towards the construction of the concept of function. The presence of stimuli that favor a better performance in Mathematics learning with the use of spreadsheet, and the socialization of information in the laboratory environment have also been approached. To this end, several tools have been devised, such as activities developed as a script, initially worked on with the use of paper and pencil and later with the application of the spreadsheet. A review of literature of Mathematics teaching has been carried out, with special attention to the historical evolution of the function concept, informatics in education, and spreadsheet use. In an interactive dynamics, innovative didactical resources have been sought, according to a perspective of teaching and learning in a social-constructivist configuration, developing strategies that are coherent with that perspective. Grounded on contributions of Vygotsky’s theory of development, the following components have been considered: student – student, student – teacher, and student – teacher – computer, regarding the spreadsheet as both mediation and an aid tool in the construction of mathematical knowledge in a social-historicalcultural environment. In this practice, relevance has been determined by an interactive composition of teacher, students, computational environment, and sign systems, thus enabling learning, the development of competences, and social relationships. The use of spreadsheet as an aid to teach functions has proved its relevance as a viable resource that is accepted by students and strengthens group interaction.
