Resumo: Contemporary schools are passing through a transformation process, looking for a more significant and atractive teaching for the student. Facing this reality, is being requested to the professors that they do use of peculiar tools and strategies of education and learning, as by example, the games. However, remains the doubt of how to use it: Any activity that involve jokes can be considered a game? Which is the more efficient and adequated way for doing use of such tool? Looking for answering questions as the above exposed, this research was carried out, having like main objective to investigate in wich way the games can be utilized in the Mathematics classes and which is the professors paradigma regarding it. In this way, before understanding the peculiar potencialities of that tool, it becomes necessary to define what are games and which are their main characteristics. Thus, this study begins by a detailed bibliographic survey, doing use of classical authors as Johan Huizinga, Gilles Brogère, Guy Jacquin and Anton Makarenko; and of authors that are in highlights at present, like Gilda Rizzo, Isabel Home, Vania Dohme and Júlia Motta. In the search of theoretical budgets that cleared in wich form games can be beneficial in the education and learning process, different analysis dimensions could be approached, however, it was searched to keep fidelity to the intial objectives of this research. In a second moment, the study contemplates a professors paradigmas survey regarding the games, and how they do use them in classroom. For the achievement of that last phase, it was structured a written research that was applied to the professors of Medium and Fundamental Education of different private and state schools located at roundigs of Porto Alegre. It can be conclude that the intial series educators of the fundamental education dominate with more clearness the tool that we refer, and that many professors of medium and fundamental education, despite they have knowledge of his benefits for the education, still they present difficulties in do use of that in the school. An intial problem is the fact that professors don’t have clear what is a game, reality aggravated by the absence of literature and stuff destined to the medium and fundamental education. Others factors, as the absence of preparation for using a different instrument of education and learning, also are analyzed through the professors answers.
