Resumo: This work discusses upon Case acquisition in Brazilian Portuguese, based on an experimental research with three children between one year and seven months and three years of age. After an intense bibliographic review that introduced the theoretical tools and sought to bring data on Case acquisition from other languages, two points of view were described on the acquisition of Case in the English language. The first, presented in a study by Schütze e Wexler (1996), relates Case acquisition to the Optional Infinitives Stage (OI Stage); and the second, developed in Vainikka (1994), relates Case acquisition to the acquisition of phrasal categories responsible for Case marking. Both studies served as guides to the analysis of Brazilian data and made possible the detection of a stage analogue to the OI stage that takes place during the acquisition of Brazilian Portuguese. Based on the analysis of child data, in the light of the Generative Theory by Chomsky (1957) in the formulation of Government and Binding and Case Theory, it was observed that there is a default inflection identical to the inflection for the third person, applied mainly to the first person when subject is non-overt. Through the main findings, it was possible to delineate the pattern of Case error and the pattern for pronoun acquisition, which begins with nominative, for the Brazilian Portuguese.
