Resumo: | This present dissertation is the result of a study about the thoughts of the catholic Church regarding social communication with basis on the analysis of pontifical documents dealing with this subject and which have been published since the invention of printing. Such analysis has the purpose of understanding the position of the Church on social communication, particularly the one that develops by means of different resources and instruments. The first chapter, besides describing what the thought of the Church is about human communication, also registers the theological elements that may contribute to the understanding of this phenomenon. The second chapter presents the main documents published between the time when printing was invented until the pontificate of John XXIII, in the period prior to the II Vatican Council. The third chapter focuses, in sequence, on the post council thought. Finally, in the fourth chapter, it is analysed the understanding that the Church has about the use of mass media for evangelization. Concerning mass media, however, the Church acknowledges failures. Willing to overcome the flaws, the Church of today seeks to articulate in a systematic way, mainly through the Communication Pastoral Service, an integrating pastoral service to permeate all ecclesiastical activities. |
