Resumo: With this study we aim to capture, in the discourse of elementary school teachers, some aspects of their comprehension about the school and the teaching role, starting for both the issues and themes incited by the movie Freedom Writers. It is understood that the story around which the movie unfolds itself involves the complexity of human relationships and presents the main character in many ways: professional, affective, emotional, and her role as a woman, and its understanding presupposes the point of view of each spectator, wich impresses its subjectivity and values to what is being seen. It is believed that understanding cinema as prosaic and poetic allows us to think about the human relationships as a hole. The theory founded and developed by the french thinker Edgar Morin, know as complex though , unites what is fragmented by culture and life and intends to reform what is usually separated , reduced , segregated by our thought, which alows us to consider the subject and its ambivalences , uncertainties and weaknesses. To investigate the process of understanding, non-structured interviews were conducted with four teachers of elementary school. Starting from the listening and careful reading of the contents of the discourses present in the speech of the teachers that were interviewed, we stablished some categories that provided a thorough analysis of these discourses, regarding the notions of subject and culture were established, beyond the concepts of complex comprehension and imaginary complexs , as well as the definitions of projection, identification and transference. The study allowed us to conclude that the teachers interviewed have different points of view regarding the teaching job and they provided information that allowed us to recognize them as subjects engaged in the educational process, but also dissatisfied with the current educational system. It was noted, however, that this dissatisfaction do not always interferes with the educational process, that is influenced by other environmental factors. Therefore, at the end of this study, we were able to indicate the need of an urgent reform of the educational system, along with a serious review of public policies, as well as the adequacy of instructional materials offered to students and a review of the large number of students in the classroom.
