The environment has been suffering due to the impacts caused by human beings; nevertheless, over the time the companies have noticed the preservation of the environment is important for business. The global pressure over the preservation forced the organizations to change their management system, developing the environmental management system (EMS) making the companies start investing in technology to improve their productive processes concerning with the reduction of the environmental impacts which were generated as rivers, air, earth and other impact pollution. A lot of environmental certifications arose to cooperate with the companies to contribute with the environment as well as to improve their own environmental management system, resulting in an increase in competitiveness for them in the market. The companies that aim at raising their visibility to their consumers and stakeholders also seek for environmental awards. The Mais Serviços Consultoria Empresarial created the Benchmarking Brazil Program that certifies particular projects of the companies, which contributes for the improvement of the sector and for the responsible manager of the project. These projects are evaluated by experts in environment, sustainability and social responsibility from Brazil and other countries who were indicated by other professionals. The Benchmarking Brazil Program consists of three principles that make the companies seek for their differential in the market, they are: certification, recognition (award) and sharing. This work has as goal present the benefits and challenges faced by the companies that seek for the environmental certification such as ISO 14001, FSC, LEED and AQUA as well as the Benchmarking Brazil Program. Via Bibliographical survey of the certifications and a questionnaire sent to the managers of the environmental department of the companies which have already got the Benchmarking Brazil Program certification, it was made a comparison between the benefits and the challenges of the environmental certifications. As benefit, the credibility and visibility are the most important topics for the company that seeks for this kind of certification, otherwise the budget constraint is the biggest challenge. |
