Resumo: The purpose of this study is to analyze the competitiveness of air transportation companies operating in the domestic Brazilian market. The focus is in understanding the differences in strategic choices of each company. This study tries to address the following questions: What are the factors that determine the competitiveness of an airline? What are the reasons that make some airlines more competitive than others, operating in the same market? The model chosen for this analysis was the Field and Weapons Competition Model, developed by Contador (1995b), and the competitiveness indicator chosen was the growth variation in passenger numbers between 2001 and 2004. The data collection was done by a survey with the airlines researched executives. By the questionnaires answers the Field and weapons competition model can analyze the influence of the several indicators in the competitiveness of the companies.
