Resumo: This work broaches the human formation in technological professional education from technology graduation courses offered by the Federal Institute of Education of Piauí (IFPI). The aim is to understand education as a process of human formation in the perspective of technical, political, ethical and aesthetic training in higher technology courses at IFPI - Teresina Central campus. The research is configured as qualitative with case study. Regarding the data collection instruments, the choice was for the application of a questionnaire and conversation circles/debate meet-up groups between students, each one representing one of the technology graduation courses. In the theoretical framework, the preference was for authors who broaches the relationship between education and human formation/ training, such as Severino (2012, 2016, 2017) and Pinto (1996), and those who deal with technological professional education, Grinspun (2009) and Pacheco (2010); as well as the legal order regarding higher technology courses within the Federal Institutes of Education. The study consists of an approach on human formation in the sense of technical, political, ethical and aesthetic formation, makes reference to the contextual and characteristic aspects of higher technology courses, and analyzes the conception of students about human formation. Higher technology courses are part of technological professional education, an educational modality that is organized based on teaching, research and extension, with the purpose of training students for the insertion of the labor market and social intervention; in this perspective, it aims to guide students in the understanding of productive, political and symbolic practices, typical of human reality, as it is within these practices that human beings are realized as professionals and citizens. The study revealed that the professional technological education represented by the higher education courses in technology, at the formal level, aims at training individuals to work in the labor market, as well as training them as critical and ethical citizens in the exercise of their emancipation, since the education seeks the totality of human dimensions. In the context of pedagogical practice, the results showed that human formation is achieved according to the dimensions mentioned; however, it also revealed issues that hinder the full realization of human formation in the context of the IFPI, such as: the distance between theory and practice compromises technical training; the debate that promotes political training is restricted, hampering the training of students in this area; ethical training is present in all courses, however ethics, as a specific curricular component, only appears in some of the courses. Aesthetic training, on the other hand, manifests itself only in some situations which are the result of isolated actions of some teachers, or in artistic-cultural acts sponsored by representative institutions of the students, such as a student union or academic directory.
