Resumo: The use of projects as a tool for the implementation of specific strategies or strategic plans is increasingly common in organizations. This is due to the search to improve project success results, mitigating failures and waste. Thus, the project manager assumes a relevant role in this scenario. There are several studies in the area of strategy that evaluate their performance at various levels, such as high-level theory, which also considers the managerial discretion of the organization's top executives. Subsequently, the focus was given to the performance of middle managers. This contributes to the study of skills such as leadership, communication and emotional intelligence, which are increasingly studied and appreciated in the profile of project managers. These human competences are considered to directly influence the project manager's performance. This way, it performs better and gets better results. The competence of emotional intelligence is highlighted because it influences the improvement of other skills, becoming relevant to the pursuit of success in projects. This study aims to determine the moderating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between project manager behavior and project success. For this, three stages were considered, the first being a bibliometric study, considering the citation and cocitation analyzes, conducted to have an understanding of what was studied, the main authors and the theories that guide the most current studies about the project manager, in addition to their skills and characteristics. In a second step, for the same study, a bibliographic matching analysis was added, to obtain as a result which are the most current fields of study on the subject of project manager competencies. Finally, the third step was a quantitative study with the data obtained through a survey. We then identified the degree of emotional intelligence competency, relating it to project success, in order to justify the moderating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between manager behavior and project success. As main results, it can be verified that: i) the project manager specific training characteristic positively influences the project success; and ii) the finding of the positive influence of moderation of emotional intelligence on the relationship between managers' behavior and project success through their specific experience in the job.
