Resumo: |
There is an increased assistance programs and actions around early childhood development will affect the world, both in terms of baby health and maternal health. there's great concern of the government agencies in Brazil and worldwide, with the factors that influence child development with regard to biological aspects, such as growth and maturation, and cognitive, motor, linguistic, psychological and social aspects. The World Health Organization (OMS) and the Ministry of Health of Brazil recommend that breastfeeding (AM) is exclusive (AME) during the first 6 months of the baby's life, extending in parallel to complementary feeding until at least 2 years. The objective of this study was to relate breastfeeding time to child development, cognitive domains, language, motor, socioemotional and adaptive behavior using the Bayley III scale. A sample composed of 991 children aged 0 to 42 months and 15 days was used, evaluated in municipal daycare centers in a city in ABC Paulista. The instruments used were: sociodemographic questionnaire, a questionnaire about health, food, sleep and habits answered by the child's parent or caregiver and the Bayley Scales of Infant Development – 3rd Edition. The Data were collected individually and analyzed statistically using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences Version 21 - SPSS and categorized considering the duration of breastfeeding, forming three groups: Group 1, who breastfed for up to 6 months; Group 2, breastfed between 6 months until 1 year and Group 3, who breastfed for more than 1 year. The results showed differences (p <0.05) that revealed a better performance of Group 3, when compared to Group 1, in the following domains: receptive language, fine motor, socio-emotional and adaptative behavior. There was no difference in the cognitive, expressive language and gross motor domains. There was a need for new qualitative and longitudinal studies that clarify the scope of these differences, since these results are not unanimous in the scientific literature |
