Resumo: |
The aim of this study is to investigate any possible relationship between the shape of the incisors and the anterior lower crowding, as well as to verify if such a relationship can be used as predictor in the orthodontic diagnosis and treatment plan. Two different samples of male and female individuals were used. The first sample was comprised of 22 cast models of subjects with Class I malocclusion and anterior lower crowding greater than 4mm. The second sample was comprised of 22 cast models of subjects with normal occlusion. All models were selected from the archive of the Orthodontics Specialization Course of the São Paulo Metodista University. The measurements were statistically analyzed by means of the Pearson correlation coefficient and Student s t test, both with a 5% significance level. The results indicated that: 1 No relationship between the shape of the incisors and the amount of anterior lower crowding was found. 2 No statistically significant difference in the shape of the lower incisors between the Class I malocclusion group and the normal occlusion group was found. 3 No sexual dimorphism was found in both groups. |
