Resumo: |
The objective of this study was to verify if personality traits, parental practices, cognitive distortions and stress are associated with the acceptance of violence in people involved in dating. The research had 311 participants as collaborators, 228 women and 83 men, aged 18 or up, being students in a University from Grande ABC Paulista. To collect data, Socio-demographic questionnaires, Five factors revised personality inventory (FFRPI), Cognitive distortions scale (CDE), Exigency and responsiveness scale (EES), Depression, anxiety and stress scale (DASS) and Scale of Violence Acceptance during the dating period (SVAD) were applied. The principal results of descriptive and co-relational analyses appointed that 42,12% of participants presented high levels of stress (severe and extremely severe). Particularly, women presented higher levels of stress. Verified that neuroticism was certainly linked to high stress levels, indicating that the higher score of neuroticism, the higher the level of stress. The data collected also revealed a real correlation between parental authoritarian behavior, both paternal and maternal with violence acceptance during the dating period. As for cognitive distortions the highest scores are related to self-guilt and preoccupation with the dangers associated with this behavior. Among them, the more mentioned distortions are, respectively, “To blame yourself for something, even when you probably were not guilty” and “Imagine the worst when somebody wants to tell you something”. In respect to variable scores of violence during the dating period, it was found a real correlation with neuroticism, indicating that the higher score of neuroticism, the higher the probability of violence acceptance in relationships. |
