Resumo: |
This thesis tries to demonstrate how the Catholic Church, from Leon XIII, woke up for the social question, particularly related to the workers, providing an intellectuality that would influence many generations of Catholics that would find there the substratum and the opposing side of the Marxist conceptions. With the progress of the progressive currents within the Church, these were reoriented and tried to do the crossing among Marxism and Christianity, that would culminate with the Theology of Liberation. This was also the meeting moment with the trade union movements, through their militants and the Ecclesial Base Communities. That intersection provided the moral base that orientated the trade union movement at the end of the seventies, creating the call for ne w syndicalism". The militants believed that the working class was engaged and committed with the social changes, when, actually, they thought about their more private subjects. With time, the Church, through its hierarchy, fragmented the support network to the trade union movement and the utopia disappeared.(AU) |
