This paper draws up a diagnostic about the communication process and the actions of the scientific spreading developed by the Social Communication Board of Universidade Federal de Uberlândia ( UFU ) and its relations with the academic community, with the media and therefore, the general society. It develops a thought about the role of the journalist in the dissemination of the scientific knowledge. It calls attention to the social responsibility of the journalist, who must work in a partnership regime with the scientist in the practice of scientific spreading to the democratization of the knowledge. It points out gaps in the communicational process of the University and suggests complementary actions to the improvement of the scientific spreading .
