Resumo: Based on the analysis of two major reports on the Colony Psychiatric Hospital of Barbacena, published in different decades, the research seeks to identify: a) probable changes in methodology used in research; b) changes in construction of the Report that shares the results obtained with the research justifying the low quality or not of the journalistic productions today. We employ a methodology that is described in a separate chapter, however, collect almost 50 publications on the subject between 1961 to 2011, in the expectation of finding answers to the questions posed, the two main series of reports chosen as objects of this study, have denounced the degrading situation in which the psychiatric patients of Minas Gerais lived before the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform. The first is the author of Hiram Firmino and was published in 1979 by the newspaper O Estado de Minas and the second is the author of Daniela Arbex and was published in 2011 by the newspaper Tribuna de Minas.
