Resumo: |
The aim of this research was to assess the oral hygiene in adult patients after lingual brackets placement through bleeding on probing and plaque index and to compare with labial orthodontics patient. The group 1 (G1) consisted of 11 lingual orthodontic patients, mean age 22y and 9m. The group 2 (G2) consisted of 19 labial orthodontic patients, mean age 25y 8m. The bleeding on probing and plaque index was checked before bonding (T0), from one to two weeks after total bonding, including wires (T1). After that brushing instructions were given to them. The patients were checked again after 1 month (T2), 2 months (T3), and 3 months (T4), when reinforcement instructions were given. The appliance kind effect was compared between groups and the lingual and labial face changes in the same person were assessed, too. There was a significant worsening in plaque index in T1, except for the lingual orthodontic labial face. Both labial and lingual appliances seemed to cause an increase in gingivitis in adult patients, showed by gingival bleeding. After instructions G2 showed to return to initial plaque index. However, G1, despite some improvement, couldnt do the same, and was less efficient than G2 in T1 and T4. |
