Resumo: This research intends to reconstruct the history and the memories of the popular educational experiences, which occurred in the end of the 70´s decade, in a small populated village in Maranhão State, called Santa Teresa do Paruá, today, Presidente Médici. In this small agricultural village, with common values, where Colégio Santa Teresa was built – bringing about the origin of a popular quality education. In addition, falling back on memories to know what effects and contributions are in the presence of the Lassalian Pedagogy in the school. The aim is to register and document the impressions and the experiences of the local residents about this movement, in order to, onward memories, narrate how this educational model had influenced in their lives. The study will also deal with other questions such as: Why does a community, mostly illiterate, in tough times that essentially lived through the familiar agricultural activity, has enthused so much for the formal education, to the point of building communally Colégio Santa Teresa? It was found in the writings of Pinto (2003) and Demartini (1998), a reflection and some answers for these following questions. Why couldn´t Colégio Santa Teresa stand out from the political-party, soon after the political emancipation of the city? Why couldn´t the community preserve and encourage the community spirit, which enabled a small village, in tough times, create a popular quality education? For this purpose, based on the discussions of Fernandes (1972) and Bauman (2003) that aim at explaining the behavior of some communities when they are exposed in a process of urbanization and national integration. This study is developed through the bibliographic research and the Oral History methodology (through the use of interviews, listening to and analyzing the data of people that somehow, experienced this research subject).
