A significant effort has been made in the last years for providing Quality of Service (QoS) in generic communication network, using Internet Protocol (IP). Proposed models by the IETF ??? Internet Task Force Engineering, as Best-effort Services, Int- Serv ??? Integrated Services and DiffServ ??? Differentiated Services, provide and guarantee QoS in these networks. On the other hand, DWDM optical network users require QoS and are attended through QoS provisioning and guaranteeing mechanisms in optical networks. IP over DWDM network transport service users are attended through those generic models from IP network, but these ones do not consider the QoS provisioning and guaranteeing mechanisms in the DWDM optical layer. An analysis of the capabilities of these mechanisms in one and other layer is useful to suggest a reduction or elimination of some of these capabilities available on IP networks. QoS mechanisms. This may permit to simplify the implementation and improve the performance of these networks. This work describes these mechanisms of QoS for IP networks in DWDM optical networks and makes a study of these functionalities, to identify the architectures of QoS provisioning for IP, when used in DWDM. |
