Resumo: A study about the various theoretical and technical aspects that characterize the process of transferring information published by the Brazilian public archival institutions on the internet. In order to fulfil such goal it was necessary to research the Brazilian public archival institutions on the internet, using the following criteria as guidelines: services that the site makes available to the user; the level of interaction with the user; what type of search can be performed on the collection and elements relative to the contents, design and structure of the sites. The internet transformed the transference of archival information, permitting access to a larger number of users, and also increasing social awareness of the archival institution. However, it also causes implications in the form of new challenges which the administration of archival information can face. In this way the internet can reform the archival institution into a legitimate and accessible public space, even with its problems and limitations. The availability of the archival and collections on the internet redefines the horizons of access to information, widens the possibilities of transferring archival information and consequently the civil and political rights of the citizen, as well as allowing a more effective government
