We intend to examine the main questions raised by the relation between the cancer and its psychological expression, using the study which was done during e treatment and rehabilitation phase of patients suffering from cancer of the larynx and who underwent total laringectomy in the Instituto Nacional de Câncer (I.N.Ca.) -Rio de Janeiro. Our main instigator was the fact that several specific publications either emphasize a search for a psychological etiology of cancer or concentrate their effors on a search for improvement of methods which may help terminal patients. Even with the recent medical advances and the increase of survival time of cancer patients, we still notice a dearth of investigations which intend to study the possibilities of therapeutical planning-elated to the psychological treatment and readaptation of patients. We do not pretend to present a new theory about psychological help given to cancer patients, and specifically, to laringectomized ones. Our objective is to present empirically derived formulations which may help to instigate new studies and investigations from this point of view. |
