Resumo: We intended to analyse the concept of reduction, when applicable to sciences, particullary to Psychology. Reductionism, as has been stressed, wi11 have to be verified, initially, on legal, methodo1ogical and linguistical aspects, that is, according general forms. In the field of Psychology, had been considered, with more details, the contributions of R. Carnap and C.C. Pratt, proposing respectively, the reduction to language and Pbysiology. The critical analysis of these contributions, stressed their differences mainly on two aspects: .the. rejection of the conception that the objects present varions angles of valid Scientific investigation, and ·the absence of a rigorous, empirical comprobation of the reductionists arguments while they pass from a logical level to a concret one, or when they surpass various levels of reality ontologically defined. This study also shows the articulation of reductionism with the matter of body-mind, through an exam of the principal solutions, monist and dualist ones, offered to solve the matter. The more adequate alternative for the exam of psychological procedures, wil1 have to be the adaption of variouv level of investigation, instead of a onesided orientation. The comp1emental caracteristics of the various scientific oontributions may be explored in behalf of a 1arger antropological conception. The adaption and development of reductionists concepts are far from being considared as a strange fact in the modern cultural field, corresponding to philosophical perspectives, defined as determinism and mecanicism. In every situation, not coritributing to damage scientific aims, it must be saved the suntactis and semantics criterions, as a way of judgement of the contributions that intend to be the scientific ones. This procedure, must not be offered as an obstacle to other initiativ6S, as philosophical ones, that use their own methods. So, we can have the opportunity of a richer integrated word, in a higher level.
