Resumo: In the last few years, measuring Operational Risk (OR) becomes the big challenge to the financial institutions in the whole world, meanly with the implementation of the regulatory capital allocation rules from the New Basel Capital Accord. In Brazil, at the end of 2004, Brazilian Central Bank (BACEN) established a goal timetable and a task team to adapt and implement those rules for the Brazilian financial market. Also Brazilian Bank Union (FEBRABAN), make public the result of a recent OR survey about managing practices involving several Brazilian banks. This whole process brought a wide and growing research and activities backed to modeling OR in Brazil. In this work we measure an overall impact over the Brazilian banks, caused by the new regulatory capital allocation for OR, related to the basic and standardised approaches and also introduce an advanced measurement approach, the Loss Distribution Approach (LDA) which some experts, from market risk, named Value-at-Risk for OR (VaROperational ). At the end of this work we present a case study based on the implementation of LDA or VaROperational.
