Resumo: The logical structure of occidental thought is predominantly abstract, fragmeter, and static. These values backed the development of a science and technology alien to the inter-dependency between man and his-ecosystem. The supremacy of a fragmented science, supported by capitalist ideological, political and economical concepts, has allowed human interferences much disturbing to the enviromment. AIso~ rated a concept of developement that combines progress, destruction it has geneviolence and These values and concepts are reflected in the patterns of organization of occi~ental society, extended to its educational systems, among these, formal education in public schools. The urgency for activation of ecological balance, through man's integration to natural ecosystems, mainly in third world countries, requires a review of social, political and economical values. In order to achieve this, a rearrangement of occidental thought, considering more dinamic and holistic values, is needed.
