This paper seeks to evaluate the potential of renewable energy sources and bioenergy production in Mato Grosso. It first performs a comprehensive literature review, in order to promote agregation and consolidation of scattered information, coming from various sources, but related to the energy sources in its most different levels: global, national and regional levels. In the same context, another objective of this study was to identify macro-trends and strategies for future energy development in Brazil, summarizing and evaluating renowned publications of energy sector and government programs, such as IEO-2010, PNE-2030 , PNA 2006-2011, PDE-2020,BEN-2010, BEEMT-2010, among others. However, there is always a concern in contextualize the data and energy scenarios identified in a broad concept of energy production, energy demands and end-use sectors. In the study did not abstain the opportunity to make a proposal of goals to advances in energy production in Mato Grosso, giving details of assumptions assumed, making analogies and interpretations of the data or information described throughout the study. The major objective is thus to broaden the debate about energy strategy and planning in the state. Following with its general proposal, this study focused on information about biomass potential and the main energetic products for the Brazil and Mato Grosso State. Finally, the conclusion is the goals originally proposed to the study were achieved, since it believes that its results constitute a database and a comprehensive source of reference for consultations related on with the production of energy or agroenergy in Mato Grosso. However, this dissertation emphasizes the multidisciplinary nature of the subject, the need and the opportunity to add other technical skills in the discussion, to deepen and to generate new data, promoting advances on the debate about the future of energy production in the state and gradually, adding more consistency to projections of energetic future of Mato Grosso.
