Resumo: The dissertation' s aim is to understand the social responsibility of the organizations, taking the cases of two companies belonging to the supply chain of automotive sector. In order to keep the anonymous of these companies, they were called Company A, strong link of this chain, and Company B, supplier of criticai products for the industrial production of Company A. The objective was to research how the social responsibility is perceived by the different actors within the supply chain. In this line, we verify if the practice of internaI social responsibility of Company A is reproduced in Company B. That implied on measurement of internai social responsibility practices. To-do so, we used the standard Social Accountability (SA) 8000, as an instrument of research, and considered as a materiaIized of a polítical ethicalnormative consensus and a Social QuaIity Management system. The standard is presented as an auditor system similar to ISO 9000 and 14000 systems, being an implementation, maintenance and verification system for worthy work conditions, establishing as an auditable social standard, liable of certification and verification by third party institutions. However, when concerning experiences applied do the social responsibility's cause, we should minimize the temptations related to the implementation of management systems like, as an example, the one proposed by SA 8000. This standard behaves as an improvement of flexible practices of management, making the quality of life in the companies be susceptive to become other performance criteria to win in more competitive markets. For us, the internai social responsibility would occur within the workplace if there is a consensual interaction between Social Quality Management model proposed by SA 8000 and citizenship. We call this interaction of 'Social Management'. The main achievement ofthis study is to enlarge the understanding about practices of exercises of internai social responsibility toward the emancipation ofthe worker-citizen.
