Resumo: |
This study aimed to evaluate how the use of IT (Information Technology) contributes to the adoption of Frugal Innovation in Brazilian organizations. It has been an important factor of competitive advantage in developing countries such as India and China, which have significant cases of business model success with this approach, even in their scenarios of limitations and resource constraints. Parallel to this, information technology has been used as an enabler of business model reconfiguration and innovation capabilities, opening up new opportunities in the use of IT through emerging technologies. Through the analysis of two organizations, this multiple case study evaluates some categories of relationship of the attributes of frugal innovation with the aspects of IT use, aiming to analyze how IT influences these attributes and, consequently, how it enables frugal innovation. One of the main contributions identified was how Frugal Innovation, defined in business priorities, brought a direct contribution to competitiveness for Brazilian organizations, since the development of innovations in Brazil differs from developed countries, precisely due to the limited economic characteristic of the population and the infrastructure offered by the country. Another contribution of high relevance identified is that the use of IT, in this context, is an important component to enable these innovations. The use of IT, contributes remarkably in how to make it a reality by enhancing its attributes, such as population reach, optimization in the use of resources (adequate cost) and quality. The pandemic context, which occurred during the elaboration of this work, increases the importance of this study, given the discussions of organizations and the scientific community to find a scenario of reconfiguration of their models and the necessary economic recovery after this complex period in which the world population is living. |
