Thys study is an attempt to think the act of educating from the perspective of a dialetic conception, i. e., considering the poles of a contradiction as complementary, not excludent. The first four chapters introduce the unities of opposites as observed respectively by eastern philosophy, modern science, psychoanalysis and the philosophy of language, underlining those contributions and enquires that may serve the field of education. The fifth chapter consists of an evaluation of the main currents of thought that have influenced the theory and practice of education in Brazil, in recent decades. In this context, the questions posed by my educational practice in 1st and 2nd grade schools, in particular the 5th to 8th leveIs of the Senador Correia School (a private school in Rio de Janeiro). Thus, this attempt to overcome manicheistic approaches in the discussion of opposites such as: modern x traditional school; freedom x coertion; autonomy x dependence; directivism x spontaneity; and imparting x construction of knowledge. |
