Resumo: |
Beauty salons and waxing institutes are often the stage of an unusual relationship between client and professional. That is, the attitude of the client of taking the professional as her confident. This paper proposes a reflection on this kind of relationship that evolves a client belonging to a higher social class than the professional. The main issue discussed is how the professional handles hierarchical order and socioeconomic differences between herself and her client. That is, how they deal with the social boundaries existing between them. Observations and seven interviews with epilators were made in a waxing institute in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Observed behaviors, where the relationship of intimacy and delivery by the client happens to be one of them, and how the differences are naturalized are exposed. |
