Resumo: The present work analyzes the current challenge felled by the State Nucleus of the Antimanicomial Fight of the Espírito Santo with regard to the deinstitutionalization of people with mental illness. We used the dialogical method to elaborate the present work, techniques of bibliographical and documentary research, as well as semistructured interviews with members of the Nucleus. The first chapter provides a description of man's illness capable of making a human conduct invisible and a matter of stigma and mental illness as a driver of the social exclusion of the person with psychic disorders. Finally, at the end of the century, the historical process of invisibilization of people with mental illness, where the concepts of humiliation and social reification of Fernando Braga da Costa are practiced, with a logic of the absence of Boaventura de Sousa Santos. The second chapter deals with the history of social aspects, later, a perspective of mental health in Brazil. It is also an analysis of the Damião Ximenes Lopes case, one of the most important chapters of the Antimanicomial Struggle, seeking to describe the consequences of Brazil's condemnation in this case. The third chapter identifies Law nº 10.216 / 2001 for its implementation and, consequently, the extrahospital services, as well as the current exercises and portrayed by the Psychiatric Reform in Brazil, in relation to the State Nucleus of Antimanicomial Struggle. It also brings a brief history of madness in the State of Espírito Santo and points out a current structure to promote the treatment of people with mental illness. Finally, bringing the perceptions of members of the Nucleus of Anti-Manicomial Struggle, captured during a field research, into the deinstitutionalization of people with psychic disorders of asylums and, discussed in the discussions of Boaventura de Sousa Santos and Erving Goffman, addresses the current challenges of antimanicomial movement and the work of the Nucleus in Espírito Santo.
