Resumo: |
The adoption of technological innovations has led to profound changes or disruptions in various traditional markets. Within the realm of the creative economy, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have ushered in numerous opportunities for the development of novel products and services. Specifically in the music industry, a significant domain within the creative economy, has undergone a complete transformation through digital tools for creation, collaboration, production, promotion, and commercialization. The formats have changed, along with consumption culture, value chain structure, and consequently, the relationship between companies and stakeholders. After the invention of the internet and the subsequent digitization of the industry, streaming platforms restructured the music industry, leaving major record companies behind. In the face of these profound changes, there was a study that aimed to address the impact of digital tools on the redefined function of professional session and sidemen musicians, a role that contributes to crafting a better world through music using creativity, technique, and sensibility. With this goal in mind, an exploratory study was conducted using qualitative research, involving eight in-depth interviews with music professionals who work as sidemen for prominent artists. The information gathered from the interviews was analyzed using the content analysis method. This approach allowed us to dive deep into the perspectives, experiences, concerns and expectations of professional sidemen musicians, related to the research topic. Among the conclusions drawn, the main takeaway is that while sidemen acknowledge the economic potential of the digital realm, they still view remote work with the help of digital tools as a way to make supplementary or passive income |
