Resumo: The WWTPs that have anaerobic treatment produced sludge, formed by organic components. In the same process, the production of biogas, predominant or methane gas occurs. From the energy use of biogas, it is possible to reduce the energy consumption of a WWTP, in addition to avoiding damage to the environment, bringing economic and environmental benefits. The objective of the research is to recommend strategies for the energy use of biogas in the thermal drying of the proven anaerobic sludge from small sewage treatment plants in the state of Paraná. A methodology used involves five stages, such as the production of methane and the method of 173 WWTPs, alternatives for the use of biogas, analysis of the amount of energy available in the treatment plants, investments and avoided costs and the construction of scenarios. To perform the steps of the methodology used or the computer program Probio, reports from the Companhia de Saneamento do Paraná and theoretical references. Two technological alternatives were used for the realization or energy use of biogas. Based on the alternatives of energy use, two scenarios were built. In the first scenario analyzed, the costs avoided with the transport of sludge to final destination and costs avoided from the production of electricity. In the second scenario, an analysis of the low carbon economy scenario is carried out based on the CH4 emissions emitted by the WWTPs. In the results obtained in scenario I, it was found that none of the treatment plants has a financial return in the period of up to 3 years. In a 4-year horizon, only at WWTPs that have sludge production greater than 161 tons (3 WWTPs) that presented a positive financial balance for Sthil. For a period of 5 years, only as WWTPs that have a production greater than 127,82 tons of sludge (5 WWTPs) had a positive return. Over the 10-year horizon, the stations had a positive NPV of R$ 3.061.914,75 for WWTPs that produce more than 69,04 tonnes of sludge (14 WWTPs). In scenario II, it were possible to verify the positive NPV for WWTPs (58 WWTPs) with a population served greater than 9.996 inhabitants in the period of 1 year. For a 5-year return, check if it is necessary to have a population greater than 2.043 inhabitants. For a 10-year analysis, as WWTPs that presented positive NPV (153 WWTPs), reached a population greater than 1.096 inhabitants.
