Resumo: The theme entrepreneurship comes winning prominence in the academic and managerial areas, through articles, studies of cases, prizes and success entrepreneurs' examples. In spite of the growing concern with the theme, the studies about entrepreneurship has concentrated on the investigation of the characteristics, profile and the entrepreneur's potential; there is lack of works that they correlate the enterprising potential to the type or group of types of specific business, in that an entrepreneur can apply its capacity and entrepreneur competence. Starting from this verification, this research used a configurational perspective that considered the dimensions of personal characteristics, types of business and environment; seeking to identify significant variables to associate enterprising profiles with business or group of specific business. In the intention of verifying this idea, They were chosen 30 types of business, with objective of identifying characteristics common to entrepreneurs that are devoted to such activities. In the research process, such business were firstly appraised for technicians of SEBRAE and later for relative entrepreneurs to the chosen business, using as base a questionnaire structured starting from the personal characteristic dimensions, types of business and atmosphere. Then, the answers of the technicians' questionnaires and of the entrepreneurs they were submitted to the cluster analysis, to identify groupings of the business in function of the entrepreneur's characteristics and of the atmosphere, and which the more variables contributed to define each cluster. As results were obtained of the questionnaires applied the technicians, six clusters that possess theoretical and practical meaning, indicating the dimensions of personal characteristics and atmosphere can contribute to identify the entrepreneur potential in function of the specified group of business. The clusters generated from the entrepreneu's answers didn't demonstrate the same assertiveness of the interpretation. To validate the clusters, interviews were accomplished with entrepreneurs that working in each one of the clusters, in order to refine and to validate the classification.
