Resumo: This study aims to evaluate the effect on air quality in the city of Araucaria of air pollutant emissions from stationary and mobile sources. The simulations were performed using the AERMOD model, developed by the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for regulatory purposes. Pollutant emissions were estimated for both stationary sources at the President Getúlio Vargas Refinery (REPAR) and stationary sources in the main industries, located in the industrial district of Araucária municipality. As the pollutant emissions from mobile sources are small compared to stationary sources, the simulations were performed using only the emissions from the stationary sources. Initially, the AERMOD model was evaluated by comparing simulated concentrations from the model and observed concentrations from the air quality station located in the REPAR’s area. The observed data are related to the following pollutants: nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (MP). The model results did not show good agreement among with simulated and observed values. A sensitivity analysis was performed in order to evaluate the influence of input data variations on the simulated concentrations for the air quality station at REPAR and downtown Araucária.
