Resumo: Digital transformation is an emerging phenomenon underpinned by technological innovation and structural change in organizations. The aim of this study is to verify how the digital transformation is influenced by intrapreneurship in a financial institution. The theoretical basis of the study is the Evolutionary Theory of Innovation and the research method adopted is Case Study. The unit of analysis was the operations center of a financial institution. The results indicate that the unit of analysis has undergone cultural and structural changes related to innovations in digital transformation in the last five years. It was found that intrapreneurship drove the digital transformation into digitization and digitization of processes, with the support of technological applications. In turn, intrapreneurship was stimulated by the management leadership and by actions to support the generation of ideas and innovations, which changed the culture of innovation in the company. The creation of an innovation unit brought significant contributions to digital transformation in the unit of analysis, in addition to the autonomy and empowerment of the team members to suggest ideas and act creatively. However, some barriers to intrapreneurship were evidenced in the unit of analysis, such as the lack of innovative behavior, the conservative mental model and hierarchy. The lack of prioritization of the generation and implementation of ideas is also a barrier to intrapreneurship, together with the preservation of a status quo limiting innovation, as evidenced by the established command power. This study concludes that digital transformation, through the digitization and digitalization of processes in the unit of analysis, has evolved significantly after the creation of an innovation unit and organizational support for intrapreneurship. It is also concluded that the structured management of innovation processes by the intrapreneurial team helped in the incremental innovations observed in the unit of analysis and contributed to the improvement of the culture focused on the “digital”. The analysis of the relationship between the analytical categories of the study, on the other hand, allows us to conclude that digital transformation (TD) is influenced by intrapreneurship (IE) through the implementation, improvement and acceleration of technological innovations, especially in information and communication. Finally, the research has limitations regarding the theoretical frontier of the investigation of digital transformation, which is a wide phenomenon and with conceptual divergence. The research also has a methodological limitation regarding the choice of the unit of analysis, which does not have a systemic maturity in digital transformation. As future studies, the investigation of digital transformation and intrapreneurship in the innovation of products and services is suggested. It is also suggested that the phenomenon be explored in other economic sectors, in addition to research that includes new elements in the process of accelerating digital transformation, such as artificial intelligence, Open Banking and Big Data.
