Resumo: Considering the importance of the Environmental Impact Assessment in the Portuary Activity and the growing expansion necessities caused by the rising demand in the World Market, is the present work proposes Integrated Environmental Management as a tool to increase the competitiveness and the business opportunities in the Portuary Sector. According to the research we were able to determine that in brazil the environmental impact assessment in the portuary activity is not a common practice. Using the proposed Portuary Environmental Indicators related to the increasing Portuary International Trade, the author seeks to encourage port authorities, operators and all the related associates to adopt a sustainable business protocol, demonstrating that an environmentally sustainable portuary activity can be economically feasible, and also to instigate governing bodies to adopt the proposed Portuary Environmental Indicators in this sector as a viable tool to analyze Environmental Impact. In order to validate the proposed indicators, two brazilian ports were analyzed, Porto de Antonina, specifically terminal Ponta do Felix, in the state of Paraná, and Porto de Itajaí, in the state of Santa Catarina. It was able to recognize that the environmental managers understand the importance of environmental management as an attractive commercial incentive and the adoption of portuary environmental indicators can help as a monitoring device to increase commercial productivity and competitiveness in the portuary sector.
