Resumo: Since the 1950s of the last century, the Road Transportation has been the most used kind of transportation in Brazil with approximately 60% of cargo transported. Its versatility and its benching way of action explain the national preference and the fact that it serves almost the entire country. However, despite the fact that the Road Transportation is practical and offers many solutions it significantly contributes for the increase of all types of pollution. For instance, the use of fossil fuels which increase the greenhouse effect, the spill of diesel oil and lubricants that can pollute soil and water and also the accumulation of waste tires, solid waste and liquid waste. Find what are the environmental protection practices used by companies of road transport, became the objective of this work. The method used was a descriptive study through a literature review and field research. The interview was the main instrument for data collection and as information source, with form submitted to 76 companies. The results showed that the Road Transportation Companies in the Greater Curitiba is aware of environmental problems that activity can cause as well as the legislation governing the matter. The implementation of an Environmental Management System is the best way to integrate the company within the criteria required for a performance compatible with the environment care.
