Resumo: The present study aims to identify the financing of health promotion actions in Patos de Minas, which is a city located in the state of Minas Gerais. It is a descriptive research, exploratory in nature and has a quantitative approach. For this purpose, were used secondary data available on the internet and public instruments for the projection and execution of public health financing, with which the historical series of investments and revenues and expenses of the Bloco de Atenção Básica were drawn up in the period from 2009 to 2016. The results indicate that although Health Promotion Financing is not evidenced in the budget items studied, Health Promotion actions are the subject of discussion by the Municipal Health Council and the Municipal Health Conferences, and are expressed through the Municipal Health Plans, a planning and organization instrument of health services. The study allowed a better understanding on the difficulty in identifying the Health Promotion actions as well as their financing. Although financing for health has grown, federal financing is fragmented by specific programs, making it difficult to meet local needs and a decentralized use of investments, and yet transfers from the state to primary care are not representative. In addition, most of the federal resources are spent on actions of medium and high complexity, and also, the government transparency portals did not present instruments for monitoring and evaluating the financing of health promotion actions. Health promotion is established as the attributions and directives of existing projects and programs and is strengthened or not by the level of preparation of managers, board members and human resources. In this sense, the research opens the possibility to deepen the debate and new researches on the same subject.
