Resumo: | Disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMD) cause functional limitations that can impair important daily activities such as chewing and speech. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of TMD and its impact on the quality of life of construction workers in the city of Curitiba. 235 volunteers participated in the research, without age limits, who sought clinical dental care. The questionnaire "Diagnostic Criteria for Research on Temporomandibular Disorders" (RDC/TMD) and the OHIP-14 questionnaire were applied. The data were submitted to statistical analysis (MannWhitney U test - = 0.05). According to the results, 169 volunteers (71.9%) had at least one TMD sign or symptom on one or both sides (right and / or left). The most prevalent sign found in the studied population was disc displacement (38.3%), followed by inflammatory disorders (24.7%) and chronic pain (14%). According to the total OHIP-14 values, the presence of myofascial pain, chronic pain, disc displacement, inflammatory disorders, chronic pain, depression and non-specific physical symptoms with and without pain had a significant negative impact on the participants' quality of life. of the study. It can be concluded that there was a high prevalence of non-painful TMD among construction workers in the municipality of Curitiba, mainly related to articular disc displacements and that the presence of TMD had a negative impact on the quality of life of this population. |
