Resumo: Due to the increased rate of morbidity and mortality in preterm births, was adopted by the Ministry of Health Kangaroo Mother Care as a public policy on humane care, to promote the Humane Care of the Newborn, Low Birth Weight. This method was created in Colombia as a proposal to improve the care of preterm newborns in the country, aiming to reduce the costs of prenatal care and promote, through skin to skin contact, a greater emotional bond between the mother and her baby. This humanization strategy was adopted by the Ministry of Health as a safe alternative to conventional treatment and a good strategy to promote breastfeeding. The aim of this study was to identify which stages of Kangaroo Mother Care is discussed further in studies of nursing. An integrative review of the literature with the purpose of gathering publications in the period July 2000 to June 2013, 24 articles were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the results and discussion of research articles were analyzed, summarized and presented after the organization in tables in them are the titles of the articles, the authors, objective of the research, results and conclusions. Seven summary tables were organized: Breastfeeding in Kangaroo Mother Care, Experience of parents and the family with the Kangaroo Mother Care, Position Kangaroo, Health Education, Experience of Nurses with the Kangaroo Mother Care, Ponderal Evolution of Premature in Kangaroo Mother Care and outpatient treatment and home. It concludes that nurses in their research run all steps of the method, however with less emphasis on the third stage, which occurs with the hospital and outpatient follow-up to assess the clinical baby conditions. This can be considered as a gap in the polls, as some are found items.
