Resumo em Inglês: The practice of type revivalism in type design is the theme of this research. The objective is to prepare a theoreticalmethodological reference for the study and production of digital fonts. Although this activity has been seen in typography for many years, the information available is fragmented and sometimes tendentious. This dissertation is intended to investigate the main characteristics of this practice, the different approaches according to type designers and its importance for design in Latin America. This project is an exploratory and qualitative research in which different methodological procedures were used. The study in graphic design and typography bibliography got enriched with the use of semi-structured questionnaires for Brazilian and foreign designers. Case studies are also included, considering type revivals developed by Latin American designers. Interviews and selected cases provided a better understanding of this phenomenon and the the expansion of its bouderies, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of the practice. The nature of a revival goes beyond nostalgia or copying, since the activity offers opportunities to new interpretations of the past, enabling the construction of new meanings in letterforms.
