The theoretical framework suggests that the government presents difficult access and costly resources for the companies, this way, companies develop strategies to capture and secure such benefits, because these benefits may influence on increasing the company's value or its performance improvement, being the political connection through campaign donations a recurring strategy by the companies. In this context, this study aims to measure the influence of the political connections through donations for the electoral campaigns, considering the capital cost and the performance of the Brazilian Companies mentioned in BM&FBovespa from 1998 to 2015. The theoretical lens used was the Institutional Theory. The financial statements showed the economic and financial data, through secondary sources: Economática, completed with the information on campaign donations reports obtained from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). Related to analysis and data handling, Stata Software version 13.0 was used to estimate the regression models through Panel Data Analysis, Fixed Effects methods and Random Effects – RE. The main results had no significant statistical relationships, showing little explanatory power, in other words, the results were inconclusive. |
