Resumo: |
Cities are centers of culture, productivity, social involvement, scientific and economic development and play a major role in environmental preservation. In this context, it is perceived the implementation of strategies aimed at sustainable cities as extremely important for the achievement of sustainable development. The aim of this study was to understand the perception of municipal legislators about the establishment of a sustainable city. To meet the objectives of this research, a literature review was conducted in international databases, such as Web of Science, Science Direct, Scopus, Sage and Emerald, with which it was possible to elaborate analysis categories for the implementation of a sustainable city. This is a qualitative approach study, descriptive in the form of case study. The selected data collection technique was the intentional sample that occurred through obtaining 19 interviews as primary data, and documentary analysis of sustainable city deployment models. Data analysis was performed using the data analysis technique suggested by Bardin (2012). The empirical results made it possible to understand that municipal legislators are aware of existing problems and are committed to finding effective and long-term solutions. The analysis also found that decision makers seem to have a strong focus on specific topics and a proven vertical thinking process that is prominent in relation to these issues. These characteristics potentially inhibit the search for more appropriate solutions for complex issues, such as transportation, which require knowledge about the interactions between different entities. These characteristics and the preponderance of adopting a reductionist approach to the problems need to be challenged and city policymakers have the opportunity to analyze more effective measures using systematic analysis and decision of the situation |
