Résumé: | The need for effective monitoring has been growing along with the rates of CO2 emission and deforestation of vegetated area, incorporated into these issues, it is extremely important to understand and monitor the sequestration of this gas through the production of biomass through photosynthesis. This process of biomass generation is a decisive factor in how the vegetated area will present itself radiometrically in satellite images, before that, monitoring by remote sensing is a viable alternative for this problem, due to the low cost and high coverage it offers. . This study aims to characterize the area and analyze, through remote sensing, the sequestration of CO2 in the Flona de Altamira, located in the state of Pará, belonging to the Legal Amazon biome. For the analysis of carbon sequestration, the CO2Flux index, proposed by Rahman et. al. (2000), which consists of the combination of the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and PRI (Photochemical Reflectance Index) indices. Data from the Landsat 8 sensor from the month of July of the years 2016 and 2020 were used, the selection of images was made based on the criterion of low cloud cover at the study site. Data regarding deforestation in the Legal Amazon were obtained through the PRODES project (Project for Monitoring Deforestation in the Legal Amazon by Satellite) carried out by INPE (National Institute for Space Research). The results obtained through the characterization of the area and indices show that the forest management that takes place in the place does not interfere with the activity of carbon sequestration, but that the rate of deforestation has been increasing in recent years. Due to the characteristics of the region where the Flona is located, the environment is favorable for the development of vegetation, as evidenced by the generated indices NDVI and PRI. These indices corroborate, together with the CO2Flux, that Flona continues to develop and increase levels of consumption and carbon sequestration. |
