Summary: | The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of two adhesive systems to dentin treated with grape seed extract (ESU). To carry out the study, 80 human third molars were randomly divided into 8 groups (n=10). The coronal portion was removed by means of a cut approximately 2 mm above the cemento-enamel junction in order to expose the dentin. The control groups were restored conventionally using adhesive systems: Scotch Bond Multi-purpose and Single Bond Universal. In the other groups, dentin was treated with grape seed extract at concentrations of 30%, 50%, 70% for 1 minute prior to bonding procedures. With the teeth restored, 20 toothpicks were obtained from each group, which were submitted to a microtensile test. Data were tabulated and submitted to ANOVA/Tukey statistical analysis (α=0.05). The results showed that for the Scotch Bond Multipurpose adhesive system, there was no statistically significant difference between the control group and the groups where the dentin was pre-treated with ESU, 4 regardless of the concentration of ESU used (P>0.05). The application of ESU at concentrations of 30, 50 and 70% resulted in bond strength values statistically similar to each other (P>0.05) and to the control group (P<0.05) when the Single Bond Universal adhesive system had been used. It can be concluded that there was an increase in immediate bond strength after the use of cross-linking agents with ESU, regardless of the concentration, when the adhesive system used was Single Bond Universal. |
