Shrnutí: The effluent generated in the industries usually has a mixed origin (industrial and sanitary) causing difficulties in the treatment, mainly in the reduction of parameters such as thermotolerant coliforms, total nitrogen and total phosphorus. This work presents the comparison between the biological treatment already existing in the industry and the physicochemical method. To carry out the study, the raw effluent was characterized and later tests were carried out with the coagulants Polyaluminium chloride (PAC) and Ferric chloride (FeCl3) at different concentrations. To carry out the experiment, the Jar Test was performed, which obtained the supernatant to assess which coagulant and dosage showed the best efficiency. The main parameters required by environmental agencies for both treatments were analyzed. COD, BOD, total phosphorus, ammonia nitrogen and kjeldahl, mineral and vegetable/animal oils and greases, sedimentable and suspended solids, surfactants, thermotolerant coliforms and pH. The monthly operating cost was also raised in both treatments, in order to help in the optimal choice of the studied methods. The effluent treated by the biological method through activated sludge presented all results in accordance with CONSEMA 355/2017, as well as obtained the lowest monthly operating cost.
