Summary: | Given the high prevalence of systemic arterial hypertension in the population and two challenges in addition to conventional physical exercise practices, exergames emerge as an innovative and motivating alternative, with potential application in clinical and community contexts. The general objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of a cinesiotherapeutic intervention, with the use of exergames, on inflammatory mediators, serum BDNF levels and quality of life in hypertensive and sedentary elderly women. The specific objectives are: Analyze the impact of the kinesiotherapeutic intervention protocol with exergames on blood concentrations of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-10, IL-17a, IL-4); Validate the influence of the protocol with exergame on the levels of BDNF in peripheral blood; Ensure the quality of life of the participants before, after 12 sessions and at the end of 24 sessions of the intervention protocol; To evaluate the changes in cognitive aspects before and after intervention, comparing kinesiotherapeutic exercises associated with exergames and conventional therapy; Compare the results of two intervention and control groups in three temporary moments: pre-intervenção, após a first session and pós-intervenção. The investigation was carried out in two stages. It initially consisted of a systematic review of the literature on the effects of exercise on blood pressure and on cardiovascular variables in adults and children, the results of which indicate similar benefits provided by traditional physical exercises. The second stage involved a randomized clinical trial with 17 skilled women, distributed in two groups: kinesiotherapy with exergames (GCE) and kinesiotherapy (GC). We evaluated the serum levels of IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, IL-4 and BDNF, in addition to the quality of life by means of the WHOQOL-bref instrument. No significant alterations were observed in the levels of inflammatory cytokines. However, there was a significant reduction in the serum levels of BDNF in the GC group, while the levels were maintained in the GCE, suggesting a possible effective protection of the intervention with exergames. Furthermore, the GCE group showed significant improvement in the quality of life, especially in the physical domain. The latter offer relevant contributions to physiotherapy in gerontology, providing an accessible, motivating and evidence-based intervention, with the potential for integration into public health policies aimed at healthy development. The results reinforce the role of exergames as a complementary strategy in the promotion of health, prevention of aggravations and functional rehabilitation of people. |
