Summary: This article aims to investigate the potential of digital technologies for the learning in the 21st century. The article presents the scenario of education in the 21st century, who are the 21st century students and shows the challenges to learning in the 21st century. This study was carried out through bibliographic research and had a qualitative approach. To discuss the theme in question, authors such as Lúcia Santaella (2007; 2013) and Mark McCrindle (2014) were consulted. As final considerations, it is understood that contemporary education comprises proposals aimed at for students, represented by generations Z and Alpha, born in the midst of digital culture. At pedagogical practices supported by TDICs provide involvement, commitment and engagement of students in learning. In addition, it generates educators the inclusion of using methodologies active in the teaching process, assuming the role of knowledge mediator in the school context.
